Visual artist Mo Maja Moesgaard takes over the exhibition space at Møstings for the final exhibition of the year. Using a figurative visual language, the art works in the exhibition alternate between private stories about the domestic and intimate, and reflections on systemic crises.

In the exhibition, ‘While Houses Slide by’, Mo Maja Moesgaard presents a series of new vibrant textile works, as well as works in clay and paper. On the wall mounted textile works, you can see depictions of bodies, homes, and communities. These large and soft pieces, sewn from old sheets, curtains, and textile scraps, invites the audience into the space of everyday life. It is a place that appears both sheltered and open to the world at the same time. This duality is central for the exhibition, which reflects on social structures and the home as at shifting landscape, that is both a sanctuary from the outside world and a battleground for how we wish to live.

The used materials also carry their own symbolic meaning: in addition to the recycled fabric collected from private homes in the textile works, the clay originates from the underground soil of the construction site behind Frederiksberg Town Hall and the artist’s own village, while the paper is a remainder from a flooded paper factory.

The thematic focus of the exhibition is therefore the relationship between home and domesticity within the contours of an increasingly trembling world, where even the familiar is under pressure, and where the fundament of our existence is eroded and unstable:

“Houses filled with daydreams, IKEA sofas, and trinkets were swept away by mud and water!” – Mo Maja Moesgaard, 2024.

During the exhibition period, a rich program of events will add extra layers to the exhibition:

  • September 13: Opening reception and performance by flutist Chris Poole
  • October 11: Concert by the queer-feminist protest band Følsom Front
  • September 21: Shape Your Notion of Domesticity / Golden Days 24
  • November 17: Book launch
