“Allow the carefully arranged images – the remelted reality – to come to you. Use your imagination to perceive the invisible.”
So reads Christian Vind’s invitation in the pocket-sized book that accompanies the exhibition Somnambulus.
Somnambulus means “sleepwalker” – someone who moves within both the realm of dreams and the world of reality at the same time.
Vind works with objects and facts, images and text, arranging them in constellations that give rise to layered and open-ended narratives. Meaning emerges in the space between the indisputable and the enigmatic. One might call it a form of poetic archaeology.
A fragment of a folding ruler, when viewed through Christian Vind’s eyes, becomes the beginning of a story pointing toward the new and the unpredictable. To truly see, the artist insists, requires association and curiosity as essential tools.
Somnambulus is an exhibition unafraid to play with the conventions of the museum space – using them to challenge both our habits of thought and the scope of our imagination.
