Christian Lemmerz: Andante

In the “Andante” exhibition in 2014, artist Christian Lemmerz filled the underground space in the most beautiful way, making wax sculptures of huge candelabras.

According to Christian Lemmerz, art needs no explanation, only silence. With the installation “Andante”, Lemmerz created a meditative, sacral space where the quiet dripping of candlelights mimicked the structure and shape of the underground dripstones.

Visitors were invited to add their own candle to one of the chandeliers

About the artist

Christian Lemmerz (b. 1959) is a Danish/German artist. He is known for a very diverse artistic repertoire – from beautifully macabre marble sculptures to a provocative installation of rotting pig corpses, shown at Esbjerg Art Museum in 1994.
