Christmas at Bakkehuset /
Get into the Christmas spirit as we celebrate Christmas at Bakkehuset on the First Advent Sunday.
At Christmas at Bakkehuset, you can create your very own magical winter landscape in a workshop with the design studio All About A. Actress Anette Vetö will be reading Christmas stories aloud, and we have invited the children’s choir from Frederiksberg Music School to sing in the holiday season. In the Orangery, we will be serving æbleskiver, glögg, Christmas cake and other treats throughout the day, creating a cozy Christmas atmosphere for all the senses and for both adults and children.
During Christmas at Bakkehuset, you can also visit our Fairytale Academy, where you can create your own Christmas stories and record them in our sound studio. You can write with pen and ink, just like Hans Christian Andersen did when he originally wrote The Fir Tree and other fairytales, or you can craft your own boxes in the style of Kamma Rahbek.
Many of our Christmas traditions were established in the Golden Age of the 1800s, and many guests who visited Kamma and Knud Lyne Rahbek’s home at Bakkehuset helped shape Christmas as we know it today through songs, poems and fairytales. Adam Oehlenschläger, B.S. Ingemann, N.F.S. Grundtvig and Hans Christian Andersen were just a few of the writers who frequented Bakkehuset during this era. Kamma Rahbek often served a special Christmas cake from Bager Hamborg for her guests, and her brother-in-law Adam Oehlenschläger declared that Christmas was everlasting at Bakkehuset.
