Deep underground, we screen the visually stunning documentary Underland (2025) – a sensuous journey into the darkness of the world beneath our feet.
The film is based on Underland (2019), the bestselling book by Robert Macfarlane, and is narrated by Oscar-nominated actress Sandra Hüller.
About the film:
Throughout human history, the ground beneath our feet has stirred imagination. Across cultures and centuries, the underworld has been portrayed in countless ways in literature, myth, and science.
In Robert Petit’s documentary Underland, three subterranean astronauts venture into the darkness below, offering different perspectives on what this hidden realm looks like today. Through caves, forgotten burial chambers, ruined storm drains, and even an underground laboratory built to solve the universe’s greatest mysteries, the film traces sweeping cultural and scientific lines from humanity’s deep past to a future in which new civilizations may one day excavate the buried traces of our own.
